FAQs

What is a Solar Cube?

A Solar Cube is a product designed by Designs For Hope for the purpose of providing electricity to those in the developing world who have no access to electrification. The Cube is intended for single-family use for lights, charging cell phones, and much more! Our pastoral partners are using them for studying God’s Word, prayer services, evangelism, and discipleship.

What is a Solar Cube Party?

Designs For Hope can host a “party” at our office, or in special circumstances, we will travel to a home or church. The event allows volunteers the opportunity to learn how solar energy empowers our international ministry partners. Everyone will have an opportunity to build a solar cube and understand the purpose of this life-transforming tool. Group members will use their talents to ‘make a difference’ in the lives of those without electricity.

How difficult is it to build a Solar Cube?

If you can assemble a kid’s toy, you can build a solar cube. All you need is a willingness and a desire to learn.  Designs For Hope will have trained team members who will walk through each step to make sure you are doing everything correctly.

How long does it last?

A build party typically last between one and a half hours to two hours.  Not only is this a fun time to build a tool that will be used by pastors in the developing world, but it’s a great time to visit with your friends and fellowship together.

How many people can come?

A party ideally works best in a group of 4-20 people, but we can accommodate larger groups if necessary.

How old do you have to be to do one?

There must be attention to detail when assembling a solar cube as it is difficult to repair them once delivered. With that said, we have found that it is typically better for an adult to participate or to oversee a build process.  Maturity goes a long way in deciding who can participate.

What do I need to provide?

All you need to do is to come with a willing spirit and a desire to minister to our partners by building and providing life-changing tools for their ministries.  We will provide the materials and tools needed to build the Solar Cube.

How much does a Solar Cube party cost?

We ask that you help offset the cost of each Solar Cube that you build, if possible. We ask that you cover $150 per unit; however, if this is not possible please reach out to see if there are any sponsorships available for your build party.
